If so, the Jackson-Monroe-Vernon County Leadership Program is a great opportunity for you. This program provides an educational forum where individuals can develop leadership skills and deepen their understanding of community issues. Each session will challenge participants to increase their knowledge and become actively involved in their communities.
Participants will be engaged in learning through 8 full-day sessions and 1 retreat scheduled once a month from September to May. The curriculum for the program is designed to incorporate leadership skill training and discussions within the study of local issues. The program is developed and organized by a local steering committee comprised of representatives from UW-Extension, Western Technical College, and graduates of statewide and local leadership programs. The first programming year ended in May 2007 with the graduation of 12 participants. In total, the program has 52 alumni.
This program is one of over two dozen community-based leadership programs across the State of Wisconsin as it expands the base of skilled and informed leaders prepared to respond to the ever-changing needs of our communities. Community-based leadership programs benefit not only the individuals involved, but also their communities and employers as an increased pool of talented leaders share their skills at work and in community life.
Participation is open to anyone living or working in Jackson, Monroe, or Vernon County. The cost of the program is $300, which can be provided by the participant or a sponsoring business or organization. Some scholarship opportunities are available.
